Let's try this again. Can anyone sum up what this group stands for. I keep looking at video and reading stuff but all I see is nebulous nonsense even a few who stated we don't have a platform yet we're still working on that.

I know the Tea party stands for
 • Fiscal Responsibility
 • Constitutionally Limited Government
 • Free Markets

But what about the Occupied group?

It's a simple question so lets stay focused on it and not get derailed. Because if you stand for nothing you fall for everything.
Here's an example of what these "protesters" are saying. This is from the New York City group. I guess they're the "leading group" for this movement

Declaration of the Occupation of New York City
As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.
As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.
They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives or provide relief in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantial profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *

To the people of the world,
We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.
Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.
To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.
Join us and make your voices heard!
*These grievances are not all-inclusive.
Here's another occupied group and their thoughts which are not endorsed by the New York group. I "like" demand 11 that will really help the international economy.

Proposed List of Demands For Occupy Wall Street Movement -
Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending "Freetrade" by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr.
Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors.
Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.
Demand four: Free college education.
Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.
Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.
Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America’s nuclear power plants.
Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.
Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live.
Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system.
Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don’t mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.
Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.
Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union.
These demands will create so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy.

Luddites were a social movement of 19th-century English textile artisans who protested – often by destroying mechanised looms – against the changes produced by the Industrial Revolution, which they felt were leaving them without work and changing their way of life.

Sound familiar?
I respectfully disagree with the comparison of this group to the Luddites. There was some logic to what the Luddites did in destroying the machines that they saw threatening their livelihoods. Stupid, yes, but there was some thought that went into their destructive behavior and the Luddites were willing to work to earn their keep. The group of assorted union thugs, left wing activists, and basement dwellers who are protesting on Wall Street seem clueless and not inclined to work to support themselves.

I think that the Occupy Wall Street "movement" is nothing more than an attempt by Obama supporters to intimidate voters. If there is enough civil unrest and the protesters express allegiance to Obama, I think that liberal Democrats are cynical enough to think that people will stay home or vote for Obama to avoid rioting in the streets. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have done their part to make such a veiled threat with statements to the effect that if Obama was not black, they would be marching on the White House.

In summary, I don't think most people in this movement have a clue what they are doing on Wall Street. They are being guided by hands that are invisible to them but connected to groups working to get a failed president a second term.
Luddites came along as Europe and the West saw a radical change in their economic system. They resorted to rage against the machines that were the symbol of this new economic system. We are living in a change over period as well. The US will not have the large manufacturing base it had 50 years ago, so the occupied group is raging against the new economies
by the way this "movement" will slowly die out as more and more of the 99% really begin to understand these "protesters"
According to the following sources, there are communists and socialists in these protests. Here are the sources:

1) InfoWars.com
2) The Washington Times

I said it earlier, but I would like to remind everyone to please stay away from these types of protests. By all means, feel free to join peaceful protests. But I have a feeling that these types of protests are about to become very violent, especially if there really are communists and socialists at these protests.
No one will ever "intimidate" me to stay home on election day, or vote for a certain candidate to avoid rioting, ESPECIALLY by these people. I'd rather die. I know that for sure.

If they want to riot, they can go right ahead. They'll get a nice introduction to CS gas and rubber/real bullets.

Anyway, you guys should see the people down in Columbus, GA, where I've been for the last few weeks. It is ridiculous...the people fall into two catagories from what I can tell. Homeless people and college kids.

College kids will protest anything they can...especially anything to do with war/the government. Since I've been taking college courses, and I've really noticed this over the past year, college kids are probably the most un-educated group on current events that I've ever seen. You should hear some of the things that come out of their mouths regarding anything to do with the government, especially if it's any kind of war. I cannot explain how tough it was to hold my tongue and stay calm, soo many times throughout that class, while hearing the absolutely straight up crazy, idiotic things that they were saying. Just before the "professor" started his lesson on the current situation in Afghanistan, he asked if there were any active duty or vets in the class..there was myself and another active duty soldier. I thought there would be more, because it's a community college right off post, but oh well. Anyway, since then, he has treated me like I'm some sort of idiot, like I can't form a sentence or opinion on anything, and he refuses to call me by my first name, when he calls everyone else by their first name. And also, everytime war comes up, he comes up with some smartass comment for me...like last semester, we were going over civilian casualties in Afghan, and after he said the number, he looked at me and said "But that number is way overblown according to most of you, isn't that right Mr.vundy33"?. I just told him that we prefer to eat babies, sir. He does the same crap to the other guy, lol. He snapped after about a month of that nonsense though. Now I get treated even more like some kind of psycho that is about to snap and kill everyone...it's crazy.

I had heard of some of my friend's dislike of college students, but I really didn't have a clue until I actually started class with them. And from what I can tell, there's a crapload of them at these protests.

It is hard to understand why a college prof would honor the mindless slugs in your class while showing contempt for someone like you. I can tell you this, just because someone teaches at the college level does not mean he is smart. I have found that most profs cannot resist the urge to propagate the liberal agenda from the bully pulpit of their classroom. Added to that is the unfortunate reality of them having absolute power over how well you will be allowed to do in their class. So, at least to some extent, you will have to play along to get a good grade.

I have given a lot of thought to the state of affairs in the college classroom. As mentioned, the tenets of liberalism are preached to students year in and year out. As a result the tasseled zombies walking across the stage will dutifully venture out into the world exclaiming the sky is falling and global warming will be the death of us.

Here is what I believe has happened. I must use scripture to demonstrate my points

Romans 1:19-23 (KJV)
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it to them

MY COMMENTS BOLDED- REFERRING TO THE ITALICIZED ABOVE THIS IDEA THAT THERE ARE MANY INTERPRETATIONS TO GOD'S WORD IS NOT TRUE. GOD HAS PLAINLY SAID THAT HE "hath shewed it to them."
-------------------------------------------------------------------

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

EVEN THOUGH WE WERE NOT THERE TO SEE GOD CREATE THIS WORLD, WE ALL INSTICTIVELY KNOW THAT HE MADE THE EARTH, THE UNIVERSE, US AND ALL THAT THERE IS. FURTHER WE (THE THINGS THAT ARE MADE) KNOW ABOUT GOD, HIS ETERNAL POWER AND THE GODHEAD, WHICH IS THE FATHER, SON AND HOLY GHOST. AND, THERE ARE NO EXCUSES.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

HERE IS WHAT I THINK YOU ARE SEEING FROM YOUR COLLEGE COHORTS AND YOUR PROFS. FIRST IN VERSE 21 THEIR HEART WAS DARKENED AND SECOND, IN VERSE 22 THEY BECAME FOOLS

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
--------------------------------------------------------------------

AND FINALLY IN VERSE 23 MEN CHANGED THE GLORY OF GOD INTO THEIR OWN IMAGE. HOW DID MEN DO THIS? IN 1962 THE SUPREME COURT DECLARED SCHOOL PRAYER UNCONSTITUTIONAL. FROM THAT DAY FORWARD THE CASCADE OF RULINGS FROM OUR HIGH COURT DECLARING ANY REFERENCE TO GOD MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE CLASSROOM, THEN FROM GRADUATIONS AND THEN FROM FOOTBALL GAMES, THESE RULINGS MARK THE DAYS WHEN AMERICA EXCHANGED THE GLORY OF GOD FOR THE WISDOM OF MEN.

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man
---------------------------------------------------------------------

There isn't any other way to explain why we as a nation just can't seem to grip up on the reins and turn this runaway horse. For those of us that lived through the 60's and have seen how dramatic the change of attitudes and direction actually are, it is truly frightening. What I'm saying is to have a clear basis for comparison you needed to have been there. Like George H said "been there, done that." Younger folks aren't too disturbed because they've seen less of the change but, they should be.

The range of things going awry in America is incredible. I submit that anyone who is not concerned isn't paying attention. We've got problems so severe, when the next president starts to pull back on the stick it may already be too late.
I agree, not every college-level teacher is smart, not even close. I forgot to add that I don't think all college students and professors are as dumb as some of the students in that class, and the professor, but I do not think that. It was just an overwhelming majority in that class. He can continue his stupid shots at me, I don't care, just shows his stupidity. I want an education, lol, so I'm not saying a negative word to him until a get it.

The way people are acting in our country these days is completely unbelievable to me. Things like most having no clue what's going on in our country, completely disrespecting the Office of the President by being way, way too disrespectful, people standing around watching someone get robbed or someone get jumped and not doing a thing about it besides pulling their phone out and getting it on video...crap like that is just getting old, fast.

On the disrespecting the President point...that goes for high-level Republican politicians to people on here. He is our President, and no matter how much you disagree with his actions or the actions of his party, he is still our President, and we all need to stick behind him. That doesn't mean we have vote for the guy. Ya know, how can we ask for our government for bipartisanship, when we have alot in our country that think Pres. Obama is the lowest of the low, and can't focus on anything else besides how "he's a Muslim" or "how disrespectful he is to U.S. troops" (that's a new one I just seen the other day, by the way). Hell, I watched a lady argue with my friend (who is no where close to being a Pres Obama fan) about how Pres Obama should be "thrown" out of our country, because he is a Muslim, and therefore he lied. It's hard to believe idiots like that exist, but they do. I just think there should be more respect for the office, no matter who the man is. I mean, people can say whatever they need to say without being disrespectful.

This is why I always try to get all sides of a story, liberal, conservative or what have you, before I form my opinion on the situation.

I've probably learned more about politics and government from this website than anywhere else, besides school of course. Even though I don't agree with anyone on everything here, all of you have valid points in whatever you are speaking on/about, and no matter your party affiliation or beliefs.

Like theRealVille. I've noticed people flaming on him because of his beliefs. An entire thread will get horribly derailed and focused on his religious beliefs, lol..I don't know how, but they do. I disagree with them, but I really could care less about what he believes. He knows more about politics and government than I do, again, no matter his party affiliation, so therefore I tend to read what he says. And of course, he's right about some things and wrong about some things from what I've found, I take what he says into account, and based on the views of friends of different beliefs, my own research on the subject, and my beliefs, I come up with my own thoughts on the matter. That includes TheRealThing, Hoot and Bob. ^^^This is why alot of times I'll ask for everyone's opinion on certain subjects. I've found that's the best way to approach government and political matters, rather than to bury my head in Republican-only views and beliefs and go from there.
The Tea Party stands for personal responsibility which is something lacking in the present and not being taught by the schools or by parents.

The occupiers want more and more "rights" without any responsibility to earn them. They are truly a product of modern public education.
The flea baggers have no respect for private property. The leave a huge mess wherever they congregate and believe that cleaning it up is somebody else's job. In a nutshell, that is what makes any comparison between the two "movements" farcical. Of those in the OWS movement who bothered to vote in 2008, the overwhelming majority voted for Obama. They don't care that Obama is getting more financial support from Wall Street than all of the Republican candidates combined. Think about that when you watch him step off of his Canadian-made campaign bus on his tour that is begin funded by taxpayers.

Quote:
Obama still flush with cash from financial sector despite frosty relations

Despite frosty relations with the titans of Wall Street, President Obama has still managed to raise far more money this year from the financial and banking sector than Mitt Romney or any other Republican presidential candidate, according to new fundraising data.

Obama’s key advantage over the GOP field is the ability to collect bigger checks because he raises money for both his own campaign committee and for the Democratic National Committee, which will aid in his reelection effort.

As a result, Obama has brought in more money from employees of banks, hedge funds and other financial service companies than all of the GOP candidates combined, according to a Washington Post analysis of contribution data. The numbers show that Obama retains a persistent reservoir of support among Democratic financiers who have backed him since he was an underdog presidential candidate four years ago.

Take a look at the pictures posted in this op-ed piece at Pajamas Media. The will give you a great idea of what the Occupy movement is all about. The pictures are from the Occupy Oakland encampment. I don't think that this whole movement is working out the way that the Obama campaign expected.

Is Occupy Oakland as Bad as They Say?
