Congrats Black Bears!
Good win for HC! Keep up the good work guy's.
Good win. The Black Bears are for real this year.
Congratulations Black Bears on the win over GRC!!

Their running back was one of the fastest I've ever seen!

After reviewing the posts on the WC-Somerset game, it looks like we weren't the only ones with "questionable" refs. I'm probably going to get slammed for that comment, but it's true. There should be a way to get fair officiating in a game, to say the least. One of these days a kid is going to get hurt because of biased calls. A couple years ago, and I won't say where it happened, HC's fresh team was playing and went for the first down on a 4th and 1. They didn't make it, so the other team took over on downs. The refs actually gave it to them with 1st and 9. I kid you not!! And, no, it wasn't because there were 9 yards to go for a score. Pitiful!
if anything it was good for HC to play a team with such an athlete on it. im sure that kid was on another level than anyone else harlan will see. but now when they come across anyone else with speed close to harris it wont blow there minds lol
Way to go Bears!!!ConfusedingleparConfusedinglepar

Disagree on the officiating. There was some calls missed IMO, but they were both ways. Some was they didn't call holding on HC. Another was the call of a no catch in the end zone for HC a TD. Looked like he caught the ball. They are going to miss some calls but was it one sided, not IMO. Thought it was a great game where both teams put in all on the field and the best team won. Very enjoyable game to watch with some great high school athletes. Weather wasn't too bad either, good night for some high school football. Was told last night that GRC will travel to Harlan Co next year.
Congrats Black Bears!

I disagree greatly with you on the officiating, mostly in the first half, they called holding on HC at least 3, possibly 4 times along with a roughing the passer and a few other calls. They called absolutely nothing against GRC, then with less than a minute left in the half one ref threw a flag on GRC that would have brought back a long run by Harris and kept them from getting the last score of the half, but the head ref waived the flag??? The refs did everything they could to keep GRC in the game the first half. Having said all that though give credit to the GRC kids for continuing to battle all night and HATS OFF to the most electrifying player I have seen in years (Pokey Harris) Also hats of to the HC Bears for continuing to run the ball down GRC's throats all night!!! Unreal game!
If Harlan County couldn't hold Harris to under 200 yards... then there is little chance that The Black Bears will be able to knock off Bowling Green, Christian Co., Warren Central, or John Hardin........ because they have Harris-type players at all skill positions.

Regardless of Class, HC should not be allowing GRC to put up 36 points. GRC was without several key players tonight... HC should have given up 14-16 points at most.

As far as the officiating, I wasn't there.... However, that's the way it is when you go on the road to a different region in KY. Central KY officials are not better nor worse... they are just different.

All in all, I think that Harlan County dropped in my personal poll. I'd put them around #5 in Class 5A and number #2 in the WYMT Mtn. Top 10.

But hey... that's a good thing. Now HC is expected to win games in blow-out fashion. It's not been like that in Harlan County for a long time.

BTW... I am from Harlan County (Wallins Creek).

I would have to say it is very alarming to watch the Bears give up 331 yds rushing to Harris, but to say the top 4 teams in 5A have Harris-type players at all skill positions is probably not close to being true!! I know they have good athletes and probably have some good speed, but Pokey Harris is a legitimate 4.3 guy with TREMENDOUS quickness and agility and that type of player is just not at very many schools in the entire state much less at all 4 schools at all skill positions???
So HC fans I guess Pokey is the best RB in the history of the state of Ky?

Congrats to HC for traveling outside of the mountains and getting a win.

Did GRC not play Corbin early in the year?

We will just have to disagree. Were you at the game? Also thanks for the kind words about Pokey. He is a special kid and fun to watch. Not sure if he will end up with a football scolly or baseball.
I have been keeping up with this Harlan Co team all season. Very impressed with them last night. Really hope you all make some noise in the playoff. This will be one Clark Co fan pulling for you all.

Who do you all play next? GRC will travel to Lafayette this week. Dosn't look like a win for GRC either.

Pokey is actually not really a RB, he will play wr at the next level without a doubt! He looks like he only weighs about 150, but the quickness and speed he possesses is tremendous! Yes, GRC did play corbin earlier and beat them I believe 39-29. As for your comment (I guess he is the best RB in the history of the the state) absolutely not, but depending on what kind of desire and determination he has he could become a great wr and return specialist in the SEC, I hope Joker has enough sense to get all over this guy!!

Yes, I was at the game and have to say it was well worth the $5 price of admission. I wish we could have held Pokey down a little more and not given up 36 points, but the kid got it done many times. Again Hats off!! I liked how he Bears maintained their desire offensively, MacMillan and Middleton is a very nice 2-headed monster for us in the backfield. We play our first District game next Friday at home against Letcher County in the Coal Bowl, they have a really good QB who is the first Cousin of Tim Couch (Logan Johnson) Thanks for the kinds words and well wishes for our Bears!

We could not stop you all at all. I told my friends everytime you had the ball....they will score. Really liked your two backs in MacMillan and Middleton. They really make you all a dangerous team. We have faced some hard hitting and physical teams, but I believe you all are the best we have faced this year so far, and this includes Scott Co. It will help prepare us for our game with Lafayette this week. So glad these two team decided to play this year and look forward to more games in the future.

Your sarcasm is noted. Still yet, he's the fastest player HC will face all season.

The Black Bears remain undefeated.

One game at a time.

I believe you will really enjoy the trip to Harlan next year, the atmosphere is Awesome, the fan support is great and just before our players run through a huge blow up HC helmet provided by Appalachian wireless we play parts of a very special country music song about Harlan that wires the crowd up!! I think most of our opponents fans get a charge out of it also! Its a great night of football in the mountains, I believe you will really enjoy!! Cant miss entertainment!!
The Black Bears overcame the officiating and physically overpowered GRC. The "on the road officiating" is expected, but it was far from this. Flags against GRC came out late in the game and mostly applied on the kickoffs. It was terrible. Nevertheless, the Bears overcame. Pokey was very impressive and I think his future is bright. On to Letcher County Central preps. One game at a time. GO BLACK BEARS!!!!
Pokkey started at QB and lined up in the wildcat a lot and I don't think the Black Bears were prepared for that. The Defense would have hold of him I would think he was down then there he was still running. Like I said and someone else said this was a good experience for them to learn and improve!
Pokey Pokey Pokey!!!!...WOW what a player!!!!!...Bears Bears Bears!!!!!...WOW what a Team!!!!!...:worthy:

Ref's Smef's!:lame:....glad to get the hard faught Win!!!!!...:redboxer:

Well, I was at the game and I can list some facts for you:
1- Officiating was horrible, not in the way where it's different in different districts but CLEARLY biased and at times down right flagrant.
2- Pokey was one of the best runners I've seen in my life!! I understand he is a good kid, too. I hope nothing but the best for him in college whether it's in football or baseball. Phenomenal running.
3- I appreciate your support for our football program. It's been a while in coming, but we have a special team and I really hope they go all the way.

Friends of Coal Bowl next week. Should be a great game.
Way to go black bears, good luck with the rest of the season GRC
Pokey was good we should have had the Filthy Animals practice against a greased pig. The Black Bears won and I try not to complain but the Officiating was horrid! You cannot defend 2nd and 20 and three straight face mask calls, two holding calls when it was the HC running back ad three or four GRC defenders the only ones around (I wasn't aware a RB could hold while he was running the ball) and the waved off penalty on the long run was obvious the flag was thrown before the play even developed but after the big run it was picked up! They evened out the penalties when the game was out of reach for GRC on the Bears last drive. Good Game, nice crowd, good sportsmanship!
The one thing that Harlan Co. has in it's favor going into post season, is that they won't have to play Bowling Green, Warren Central, John Hardin, and Christian Co.... they will only have to play one of those teams because of the side of the state that they're on.

But seriously... watch those teams play and you will see the difference in speed and athleticism that I'm talking about.
Some HC fans watched BG ate the ihigh bowl and was discussing how fast they were.
A few western KY fans are curious about the Black Bears they keep posting in HC threads.
Patriot Wrote:That kid ran all over us! Good experience for the Bears they took some punches and punched back.

Most explosive speed I have ever seen by a HS Player.
Gold Charger Wrote:Did anyone see the hit that #59 put on a GRC player tonight...that was a awsome hit!!

Hit of the night was by #10 Austin Maggard on HC's second scoring play. He pulverized defender to spring Middleton free for the score.
