MARK MAYNARD: Bulldogs won 107 games in ’90s; ’91 semifinalists to be honored

The Independent

ASHLAND — Lawrence County High School was the seventh-winningest high school football team in the state of Kentucky during the 1990s. The Bulldogs won 107 games from 1990-99 and made three appearances in the state semifinals.

The team that started it all? The 1991 Bulldogs, who had a magical season that was finally derailed against heavily favored Mayfield, 21-18, in the Class AA semifinals.

Wow! was not aware of this. Guess just never thought about it. The team we have now has alot of the same kids that played youth league together and they had several seasons over the years they were undefeated or only lost a game or two in a whole season. These young men are still that good!! When watching the games you will see some kid come out of nowhere and make an amazing play on offense whether it be a great catch or run. Then.... Nothing. Its like they say well great then tHey still draw from the same well and get the same results. THis team has some of the same type of talent they had in the 90's . I just don't think they have the same leadership yet! I would like to add to that THe coaching staff are great people and it just may take a while together.

Thanks Batpuff. If the Dawgs look at this article they may just wake up in a big way tonight.
Great article.
Lawrence County has just found out their identity from that one article. What a great piece to sum up the tradition and toughness of a wonderful program. Maybe this kids playing in the present know where they need to go and belong. If any program deserves a state title it's the Dawgs!! Alot of good players and special memories from that decade. It gave me chills!!
