How would you grade him?
I think he has done a good job. Better than Fletcher, at least.
Steve Beshear is actually a mediocre governor but he replaced Ernie Fletcher who is a nice guy but he was the Jimmy Carter of Kentucky as he had the most incompetent staff in the history of the state. As far as David Williams what looks like an ass, talks like an ass, and acts like an ass, must be an ass. When it comes to state government, the state Republican party is as imcompetent as the national Democratic party. There are a lot more viable candidates then Williams - Farmer who would defeat Beshear but they have to select the Repub good ole boys. Beshear is the lesser of two evils.

Beshear is a democrat, but he has acted exactly like a republican as far as being conservative with taxpayers money.

Kentucky has had a surplus the last two years

That and there is work going on everywhere in this state. Three major road projects in our area right now.
I like Besher, and plan to vote him again next election.
I was always told if there is money in your pocket, and no scandal is happening, it is as good as KY politicians can get, lol.

Steve has my vote.

EDIT. I thought you said vote against him. Nevermind.
I like Beshear too. He has my vote.

Wasnt Beshear going to try to get a Casino in KY?

He has my vote, and yes, he wanted gambling in KY, as do I.
I don't care very much for Steve Beshear. Yes, Kentucky did have a surplus for the past two years and Gov Beshear touts on his political ads that Kentucky balanced their budget in a physically responsible way. Yuk..

Part of that balance and surplus was on the backs of state workers who were forced to take 5 - 7 (depending on your position) "furlough" days without pay. So basically, the state workers were forced to donate a least a weeks' pay to Gov Beshear's budget plan. I don't know whether or not the governor or his immediate staff had to take those days.

Now, the really bad news is that Beshear will probably be re-elected and he willbe the better of the two candidates....

I guess you can tell that I'm really tired of feeling like there are NO good choices in political races.
I gave the republicans my one and only vote in the agriculture race. Comer. Just couldn't see voting for a city boy from Louisville against a bonafide farmer.
TheRealVille Wrote:How would you grade him?

I think this grade would come down to a person's idealogy/political philosophy. I am a libertarian so I am admitedly way out there. I think that government has a place in the infrastructure of our country and to help make sure that a person's rights are upheld. In this reguard I give the Governor a solid B. I know of accouple of programs in my former area where development is occuring. However the program connect Kentucky has fallen on its face, the infrastructure needs of local businesses to compete in S.E. Kentucky is a joke when considering a small business can not tap into the world economy (I.E. T-3 Wiring)

I think balancing the budget is obviously a great thing. However, the tax structure in this state is not allowing us to be competitive corporately speaking so I give him a C.

Education: which I believe should be conducted by the state is moving in the right direction but I would like to see how well it will make Kentucky more competitive in the future as well as add to the quality of life. Also, I don't know how these new standards will be assessed so I will give a B on speculation.

Overall Grade: B

Agreed! I did not vote for him the last time, but.....
Looks like Beshear has won again, Congrats Steve!

I do agree as Bob Farmer made an @#$ out of himself in the add involving him doing a standup about Eastern Kentucky and he lacks farming experience as did his predecessor Sir Richard of Manchester. The only thing grown in Clay County is still considered illegal. I too voted for Comer as well as Crosbie.

He did take a pay cut equivalent to state workers as did his staff. I think the only office holder in Frankfort who didn't cut back or cut their own pay as well as their staff was Sir Richard of Manchester.

Equivalent in what way though?? I'm certain that Gov Beshear could much better afford a "cut" or even out right "donation" than many many of the state workers who had no choice in the matter.

"Sir Richard".....that's the funniest thing I've ever read!!
Overall, i think Beshear has done a pretty decent job for KY, however in this paticular area i think he has ignored it and the voting ma showed it as Williams big wins was in far Southeat Ky.
If he does more for this community, and surrounding counties, he could easily have the governors office the next time as well.

And BTW, the only vote the dems got from me was Lungdren.
SHES FINE!!!!! LOL

I am not sure what counties you are referring to when you state that Williams carried the ones in far southeast Kentucky. The counties I considered far southeast were carried by Brashear. That would include Letcher, Harlan, Pike, Magoffin,Perry, Breathitt, Floyd, Knott, and even Johnson(a predominantly Republican County). I believe even Knox County voted for Brashear. The counties that voted for Williams generally vote Republican anyway.

Right. I guess he meant the south central counties, that hardly ever waver from republicans. You will notice that most of the red counties shown there, won't even vote in alcohol sales.

Many people didn't vote for Beshear. They voted against Williams. Williams was a terrible candidate. Check the results in the normally Republican areas of the Commonwealth. Most went for Beshear because of the voters dislike of Williams. You can rest assured that these voters have little or no use for Beshear. In their eyes it was, at best, the least (adding Galbraith to the mix) of the evils.

I believe you are 100% correct. It also shows the ignorance of the Republican party in Kentucky as they could have ran any other viable candidate and would have stood a lot better chance of winning. If Jamie Comer would have ran for Governor he would have given Brashear a good race. People are tired of partisan bickering and obstruction.

I call bullshit. They voted for Beshear because is one of the most conservative candidates in several years. You can speak for yourself, but you no idea otherwise.

Comer ran as good as he did because he is a bonafide farmer, and Farmer was a Louisville city boy, plus he ran his mouth about EKY.
