Former Ballard High School standout Ian Chiles, who spent one season at Wabash Valley Junior College, has committed to IUPUI.

The 6-foot-1 Chiles, who will have three years of eligibility returning, is the first commitment for new head coach Todd Howard. Howard, a longtime assistant at IUPUI, is also a graduate of Ballard.

Chiles averaged 11.7 points a game at Wabash and was named second-team All Great Rivers Athletic Conference and helped Wabash to a NJCAA National Tournament berth.

As a senior at Ballard, Chiles was named second-team All-State after averaging 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. The Bruins were Sweet 16 runner-ups to Shelby Valley during his senior season.

Chiles was also recruited by Southern Mississippi, SIU-Edwardsville, Virginia Commonwealth, Evansville, Radford and James Madison. He is the brother of former Kentucky and Murray State player Adam Chiles.

He’s the fourth member of the 2011 recruiting class from the state of Kentucky, joining Tates Creek’s Marcellus Barksdale, Eastern’s Lyonell Gaines and Warren Central’s Jordan Shanklin.
