After David Akers missed two kicks in the Philadelphia Eagles' playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers earlier this month, safety Quintin Mikell said his teammate was distracted by an off-field issue.

His agent, Jerrold Colton, said it was a "private family health concern". Akers had been silent on the issue but told The Philadelphia Inquirer in a story that appeared in Sunday's editions that his 6-year-old daughter Halley had a malignant cyst in her left ovary that was removed in the week after the game.

"They used the word tumor or cyst or growth," Akers told the newspaper. "And you're like, 'OK, what does that mean?' Cancer is what that means."

This is sad! No way his head could have been focused on the game. But I wouldn't have been focused on the game either if my daughter had been in that condition. Sad news!
Prayers going up that she will be ok!
being an eagles fan i have been following this some on the eagles board. looks like the doctors feel that they got all of the cancer at this point. they did have to remove one of her ovaries and will possibly have to do the same thing on the other sooner than later.

one thing that is striking a chord on the board in philly is that after the game andy reid kind of threw akers under the bus and put atleast some of the blame for the loss on akers missing the field goals. andy usually doesnt do that. also it was interesting because andy knew of the medical issue.

i pray that his daughter has a full recovery.
