Red states roaring, blue states beset by high unemployment

Quote:Taxpayers Fleeing Blue States Take $26.8 Billion in Gross Income to Red States

IRS data tracking state-to-state migration shows that blue states saw a net outflow of hundreds of thousands of taxpayers who took nearly $27 billion in taxable gross income with them to red states.

The most recent IRS migration data shows that in the years 2017-2018, a net 399,892 taxpayers and their dependents left blue states—in this case defined as those in which both the state House and Senate are Democrat-controlled.

The figures are based on 2018-2019 tax returns and exemptions, reflecting 2017-2018 state-to-state flows of people. The IRS considers tax returns a proxy for households, while exemptions are a good approximation for the number of individual taxpayers and their dependents.

The nearly 400,000 taxpayers and dependents—a little over .1 percent of the U.S. population—who left blue states took with them a net $26.8 billion in taxable adjusted gross income to red states.

Democrat-controlled California (167,563), New York (153,970), and Illinois (82,107) accounted for the bulk of the exodus, followed by New Jersey (26,853), Massachusetts (26,086), and Maryland (15,916).
I don't recall which of Twin Tick's accounts claimed that people were just moving to red states for the climate. WRONG.

From the same article, based on Census data:

Quote:The most popular choices in 2019-2020 (xls), ranked according to popularity, were “wanted newer/better/larger house or apartment,” followed by “new job or job transfer,” “to establish own household,” “other family reason,” “wanted to own home, not rent,” and “wanted cheaper housing.”

The least popular responses were “natural disaster,” “change of climate,” and “foreclosure or eviction,” with “wanted better neighborhood/less crime” somewhere in the middle.

Kentucky has some space.  Will these socialist move here and pay the red state bills?

come on Hooter, why aren’t these people moving to the places other than Texas and Florida?

Every fact listed in the OP is true, based on data from Biden's own administration and more people are fleeing blue states to red states in search of jobs, a lower cost of living, and lower tax rates, than are migrating to blue states. Blue state governors crippled their states' economies with their pandemic lockdowns.

It is idiotic or willful ignorance on your part to ask for proof that red states are doing better than blue states. Red states have all ended cushy federal COVID-19 unemployment benefits. Federal dollars have blue states propped up right now and the rabid lib media are busy fulfilling their role as Ministry of Truth in order to give cover.

Federal dollars pumped into the economy benefit blue states as much, if not more than red states. Virginia and Maryland are prime examples, as 7 or 8 of the 10 most affluent counties in the country are DC suburbs, which are home to large numbers of federal employees and federal contractors. So, even when there is no pandemic, Maryland and Virginia are huge beneficiaries of federal spending. Add to the list of states whose economies are boosted by federal spending states like California, which are home to multiple large military bases and whose colleges receive many large federal research grants.

Some liberals have resorted to citing studies that use data from as far back as 2018 to rank state economies, as if the blue states' mismanagement of the pandemic never happened. As I have said before, people are voting with their feet and with their U-Hauls. The future belongs to the red states, as the blue states are choking their own economies.

TRt, in this thread I posted Fox Business rankings of the state economies now.  Go back and read it:  Your eyes won’t burn out because it’s Fox.
This narrative wasn’t true and now it’s over. Red states can go back to sticking their hands out like every other year.

hey, don’t fret, TRt, maybe in the next pandemic red state death cults can brag about staying open and forcing workers to put their lives on the line.

Like In the two largest blue states, Gavin Newsom is being recalled in California for his mishandling of the pandemic and the economic mess that he has caused, and Andrew Cuomo is the target of multiple investigations and is openly feuding with the Democrat mayor of the nations largest city. In the past year, California's population declined for the first time in its history.

Both California and New York will have one fewer House of Representatives districts in 2022. The table is set for a red wave election in 2022, mostly because of the poor decisions made by blue state governors during the pandemic, which caused more economic misery that was necessary.

Different rankings by economists (two of the three authors of the study linked by Twin Ticks were not economists) will yield different results. However, the state of California has a bill pending, Assembly Bill 2088, introduced in August of 2020, known as the California Wealth Tax, which would tax wealthy people who choose to leave the state for 10 years after they have left the state.

Any study that ranks California's economy high among states is a joke. States with booming economies do not need to pursue taxes from non-residents who flee a state for greener pastures.

The 14th issue of the report from the American Legislative Exchange Council lauds states that follow conservative economic policies.

Utah, Florida and Oklahoma – states that favor low tax and spending policies – come out on top in the latest ALEC-Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index released on Wednesday.

States that fare the worst – New York, Vermont and New Jersey – are those that have high state income taxes and large government-funded programs, according to the "Rich States, Poor States" report from the American Legislative Exchange Council, a conservative think tank.

One component of the index, the economic outlook ranking, evaluates states based on 15 factors that are closely influenced by state policies. "Generally speaking, states that spend less — especially on income transfer programs — and states that tax less — particularly on productive activities such as working or investing — experience higher growth rates than states that tax and spend more," the report notes.

Quooter Red states are takers and Blue states are makers. This has already been settled.
More punctuation and correctly spelled words. You are really slipping, Twin Ticks. As for your "point," wishing something was true does not, in fact, make it true.

States like California and New York were blessed with great ports and natural resources. Unfortunately, they are chasing away many of their most productive citizens with bad economic policies. People are voting with their feet and their U-Hauls. It takes time for wealthy individuals and corporations to pull up roots and move, but the exodus from blue states to red states has begun. Those are the facts.

If they keep this up they will be leaving.

The state rankings from the above link are as follows:

2nd Florida

CFvector makes all of his political choices 'at' the right and in spite of the evidence. Conservatives know this and tend not to put any stock in the things lefties say because they know the left's anti-logic is based in mindless contempt. And since the left cannot argue and hurl personal insults at truth, they go nuclear on conservatives for waving truth under their nose. Lefties on the other hand don't put any stock in what conservatives say because of that little war going on within themselves. Thus the impasse. Since the left's political motivations are always and only based in contempt of truth; All more truth will do is increase their resistance to same.

What is difficult to understand about people like the socialists who post in this forum is that they have embraced these wacky, far left wing Democrat positions despite growing up and living in eastern Kentucky, surrounded by relatively conservative families and neighbors. What life experiences in eastern Kentucky could compel somebody to adopt a radical socialist political agenda?

My immersion into a very liberal area has convinced me that the liberals' political agenda does not work when it is put into action. Because of the massive federal spending in this area and high paying jobs, the quality of life is generally very good in northern Virginia. However, even here, the kooky things that local government and public schools try to implement a great deal of friction and controversy. The Fairfax County government and its school district are regularly featured in national media stories that strike me as bizarre and would have struck me as even more bizarre had I never left eastern Kentucky. The most recent example was a teacher being removed from a local school because he refused to address children by their "preferred pronouns." A court has ordered the school to put him back to work in the classroom.
