Hill is spot on in her assessment in my opinion.

She pointed to parallels between Trump's movement and right-wing populist leaders around the world.

"This is a path that it's very hard to turn back on. Once people start to forget that they're supposed to be in the service of the country, once they forget their loyalty to the country... —once they put all of that first, then we're in really big trouble," the former Trump administration official said.

"I think it's just very hard for Americans to step back and realize that they have themselves enthralled, people who have voted for him, to an individual," Hill said. "They don't want to admit it to themselves and any criticism about Trump is a criticism about them. He's kind of like an avatar in a big video game, in a reality game. But in real life, you know, President Trump is taking us in the direction of tyranny. This is no joke."

Exactly. Hill is a supporter of John Bolton, who I believe fancies himself as a 2024 presidential contender. I think that this is the second thread based on Hill's Trump-bashing. Her motive is pretty obvious. Hill obviously would have no place in another Trump administration, so she is trying to position herself for consideration for a high-level office in a non-Trump administration.

I didn't believe her testimony in the impeachment trial and my opinion of her, is that her powers of discernment have not improved over time. She's a rabid lib originating from England who takes her cues from the appeasement crowd ala Neville Chamberlain. Brits are notoriously anal, but if you look up anal in Webster you will see her picture beside the word.

DJT always did like to keep his enemies close, he purposefully hired people whose opinions were strongly opposed to his own so that he heard the inevitable blow-back from them first. That's why he hired Hill IMHO. But CNN et-al made it seem though she worked for Trump, he as typical for him, misjudged what he deemed to be her loyalty and was too self absorbed to predict she would turn on him at the trial.

The trial was a sham, but all the woodpile rats that testified of Trump's supposed failings were enemies long before the trial.

I don't believe that Trump intentionally hired enemies. I believe that he hired people based on experience and name recognition without taking proper consideration into account how they would fit in with his team. A lot of Trump's problems were caused by Clinton and Obama leftovers in his administration but Trump did not do himself any favors with many of his hires either. Remember that he hired Reince Priebus as his first Chief of Staff, and Priebus "served" for six months, which was the most critical time for Trump's new administration.

Trump should not have named Jeff Sessions as his Attorney General but after he hired him, he should not have criticized Sessions for refusing himself from investigating the Trump campaign. Instead of firing and publicly attacking Sessions, he should have appointed him to a different cabinet position. Sessions is a good man and did not deserve Trump's condemnation. He was a key player in Trump winning campaign and he was a potential asset that Trump squandered. To me, Sessions' decision to recuse himself was a no-brainer. Trump should have understood why Sessions could not have ethically overseen an investigation of a campaign of which he was a part.

William Barr was another example of a very bad Trump hire but there are many more examples. Barr was Attorney General in George H. W. Bush's administration. Given how Trump destroyed Jeb Bush during the 2016 campaign, it made no sense to appoint Barr to such an important position in his administration. My impression of the cabinet members who served under Reagan and the Bush family has been that they have been almost universally fiercely loyal to the presidents under whom they served. Barr's treachery should not have come as a shock.

Some lapses in judgment in the early days of Trump's administration were understandable but he did not seem to learn from the early mistakes. Fauci's age and association with Biden's botched handling of the 2009 swine flu pandemic should have been enough reason not to have made him the face of Trump's COVID-19 pandemic response.

Finally, Trump's decision to hire Rudy Giuliani to head his legal team responding to the rigged election could not have been much worse. I like Giuliani but he had not been active in courtrooms in many years and had little if any experience with election laws. Trump should have hired somebody with extensive and recent experience with election law to head the team and the team should have consisted of a team of election law specialists.

I hope that Trump has learned some lessons from his hiring mistakes from his first term if he runs and wins another term in 2024. His poor hiring decisions and the manner in which he fired people was my biggest issue with Trump's presidency. Publicly humiliating people that you fire may make for good TV but it makes it difficult to hire and retain competent, loyal employees.
