UK has confirmed the death of Wildcats basketball player Eloy Vargas' father.

While there are no details of his passing, the elder Vargas died in the Dominican Republic.


The younger Vargas is in his first season at UK, after playing at Miami-Dade Junior College last season. Vargas, a 6-foot-10 center, was part of the nations' top-ranked recruiting class signed this season by John Calipari.

He, now more than ever, needs basketball as a release. I hope that this is the release that the young man needs.
