For anyone who cares...

USA (NCAA D-1) Defeated Pikeville College (NAIA) in Mobile Alabama on Sept. 4th. This game marks the worse defeat for PC in school history.

Positive Notes;

Pikeville played toe-to-toe in the first half with USA.

Pikeville (0-1) will travel to Kentucky Wesleyan (0-1) on Sept.11.
Pikeville didn't stand much of a chance going into this game, but USA's football program has only been around for two seasons I believe now.
It was looking to be a good game until around 2:20 of the 2nd quarter. PC stood tall made some big plays but never could finish.
Ouch!
Anyone have a game story or stats for this? We have a Camel graduate in his first year at Pikeville, just looking for his name.

MOBILE, Ala. – Pikeville College opened its 10th season of varsity football in rough fashion, falling to the University of South Alabama 56-0.

South Alabama (1-0) is playing as an unaffiliated independent this season but will join the Sun Belt Conference next season, where they play the rest of their sports. They were 7-0 in their first season and have played all eight games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, where they had 22,376 to watch the season-opener on Saturday.

Pikeville (0-1) gave up its most points since a 59-21 loss to Georgetown on Nov. 1, 2008, and was shut out for only the fourth time in school history.

The Jaguars had 462 yards of total offense in the win, averaging 8.1 yards per play. Pikeville, meanwhile, finished with only 88 yards and averaged 1.6 yards per play.

Sophomore tailback Brandon Ross had the first two scores of the game, on runs of one and three yards, to give the Jags a 14-0 lead with 11:14 to play in the first half. Bryson James returned an interception 22 yards and Myles Gibbon hit Courtney Smith from six yards out before the half, where the Jags led 27-0.

In the third period, USA got a 31-yard scoring pass from C.J. Bennett to T.J. Glover and a 22-yard field goal by Michel Chapuseaux to lead 37-0.

In the fourth, the scoring came on a 56-yard run by Ellis Hill, a 54-yard punt return by Jereme Jones and a one-yard run by Johnny Lockett.

Pikeville never got closer than the South Alabama 41 yard line in the entire game.

South Alabama had 12 different players carry the ball, finishing with 242 yards on 39 carries (6.2 yards per carry). Hill, who had only two carries, led the way with 55 yards thanks to the scoring effort.

Three different Jags threw passes, combining to go 13-of-18 for 222 yards. Gibbon, the starter, was 7-of-8 for 112 yards with a touchdown. The leading receiver was Bryant Lavender, who had four catches for 67 yards.

Pikeville’s leading ball carrier was freshman Tavarus Pickney, who had 11 yards on two carries.

Starting quarterback Trevor Hoskins, a sophomore from Middlesboro, was 11-of-25 for 85 yards with two interceptions. Junior Bobby Owens caught four passes for 30 yards.

Senior Anson Cunningham led the defensive effort with eight tackles, six being solos. Three were for loss, totaling 13 yards. Senior Tramayel Jones followed with six tackles.

Pikeville will be back in action next Saturday night. The Bears visit Kentucky Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. EDT start.

PC
I know that this is a rough way to go, but it is really not too bad when looking at it as a whole picture. PC gets a nice check to come in and be a whipping board. So all in all it gives them something to build on and gives the program a financial boost. The players or fans should not let this get to them or anything.
