EKU doesn't have a Qb to replace Al Holland Jr. Word is they are moving a slot reciever to QB this season.
No one want's to play in Hoods system.
True That ^

Wow, without a true QB, they ae still picked to win the OVC. Is that a bad testament of the OVC?
Very Much ^

What kind of system does Hood run?
Good to see Eastern back on top where they belong..Now they gotta prove it!
Charlie Banks father said he was going to be redshirted this year, they might consider to use him as a backup.

Is Charlie playing QB at EKU?
He could. He is listed as athlete.
Actually, EKU looks pretty solid at qb. Pryor(lou.ballard)did a good job in the spring. Hoskins-soph from Middlesboro does a pretty decent job as well. They have a transfer coming in and with Banks and the QB from Ohio coming- they will be ok. I don;t know where fan first gets that something is wrong with Coach Hood;s system. All it has done is produce back-to-back OVC championships. Hood is a class act(as well as his staff) and from what I've seen - he's done a great job to this point.
How long will they wait till they make a choice on Banks if he is redshirted? What is the deadline?

Cody Watts, a reciever last season is 1st team QB as of right now. Hoskins I think is third team. A transfer from Marshall, Chris Smith, is on campus and will compete for the starting job. Thats 4 Qb's with another one transferring in next season.
Banks is not being considered at Qb at this time. He wasn't recruited for that position. He is however alot more talented than the Wood kid. They are trying to put weight on him for possibly a tight end or linebacker. Eku almost had another QB transfer but he wanted to stay off campus.
As far as Hood and his staff, they didn't run their offense the last two years because of Holland. This season, you will see it. The offense is the same one run by Michigan and West Virginia. Sort of a spread option that Hood learned from Rich Rodrequiz (mispelled).
As far as Hood being a class act, some would say not so much. His number 1 asst., and in charge of recruiting Donn Landholm bolted for Purdue because of questionable recruiting tactics. He had been at EKU for a very long time. The staff has been barred from at least 3-4 high schools in Ky for misleading recruits and coaches. One coach escorted an EKU asst. of the grounds. About all of the in-state kids playing there are paying alot more than out of state kids who are getting most of the scholarship money. This is not right. Most of the instate kids are getting academic funding or walk on offers. Money is money and our kids deserve it.
I could go on but this discussion hurts me. As a EKU graduate and former player (84-85) I lobbied for EKU to hire former player Steve Bird. The reason was simple. He was more in touch with the mountain kids and woud recruit them more.
Anyway, do I think Hood will be successful? Very much so. Do I think he runs a very respectable program? Not so much!
I will be at every home game cheering for the players. PLAYERS ONLY!
If Eastern wins the OVC, does that mean the redshirts still get a ring?
Good luck eku
Banks is playing D-back and will in all likelyhood red-shirt this year(as will most(if not all)of the freshmen. I talked to him yesterday and he was PUMPED UP.He said the staff and players were great people and he was loving it so far.
That is good to know. I wish him well.
I had the opportunity to go see Charlie yesterday. He is playing qb . The Hoskins kid transferred to Tusculum college and the kid that transferred from Marshall is not on campus either. Charlie said he absolutely LOVES everything about EKU. He said the upperclassmen were showing him the ropes and he had nothing but great things to say about the Coaching staff. He went on and on about how they want the players to be good people and make positive contributions(both now and after football is over). He told me he truly believed he was in the right place with the right people and he had not once regretted signing there. He really seemed happy. I wish him the best.
According to the Richmond Register article today, Watts has been named the starter. Pryor will also see action ahead of Hoskins who is still with the team at this time. Smith is having back trouble but is on campus and enrolled. He's just not practicing. They also have a freshmen, Wood who will likely redshirt.
The qb's that have practiced Mon and Tues were Watts, Pryor,Banks, and a kid by the name of Brendon Gregory from Northern Ky. Don't have to read it---I seen it. Also, Hoskins IS GONE
So does this mean he is in contention for 2nd string or 3rd string? Are they still going to redshirt him?
Watts and Pryor are solid 1-2. My guess would be that the decision as to how deep they want to keep people at the position will have a bearing on Banks and?or Gregory being red-shirted. Charlie said the transfer from Marshall was NOT on campus and that he didn't know if he is coming back or not. He had some kind of freak injury and he didn't know the details. Charlie wants to redshirt. He says he needs the time to absorb all the new stuff and to work on his footwork. It is not a given that he will or won't. Time will tell. he says he couldn't be happier and that being at EKU has been a great experience so far.
Hoskins has been at practice all week according to Coach Revere. He also said that Smith is enrolled in classes and is seeking a second opinion on his back.
The qb order is Watts, Pryor, Hoskins, and Wood. He said the plans are for Banks to be on defensive side of the ball. He said he would like him to try fullback.
It's good to have inside connections!!!!!
Your connections are "lacking" Fan First. The updated roster does not even have Hoskins listed anymore. In fact--Charlie is wearing Hoskins #12 jersey since monday. I don't understand why you want to contradict every body's posts. you have recieved some incorrect info from someone. There is no "Wood" kid either. his name is Brendon Gregory. Check out these things and you will see that I am correct.
The qb order is #1Watts, #2Pryor.---Banks, and Gregory are learning the offense and are getting some reps in the last few practices. Both still hope to redshirt but depth at the posotion may change things if injuries happen
Eastern will likely never have another Roy Kidd. That's just the way college sports are today. All I know is I hope Charlie Banks does well and the Colonels continue to win. Go Colonels.
It also helps when your the kid in question "Banks", lives within two miles of your in laws, and you see his mom and dad every day.
Thanks Cougarpride08--it makes parents feel good when someone like you asks about their son everytime they see you. You are a true "Fan" of our athletes and you are appreciated. You too Westside- Charlie will do fine with all the support he has.
Thanks, and yes I do care about the kids. Someone needs to tell the kids up there now what it means to have support in there program. Back to Eastern, can someone tell me how the line is shaping up in practice? Who do we have that is returning?
In their seaon preview--it states they have 4 of 5 starting "O" lineman back, their leading rusher, and several of their recievers.Go to http://www.eku.edu and click on the athletics icon. When the football page comes uo-look on the right side and it gives you a directory of things you can look up
