But progressives don’t have a mandate from voters, and they can’t make anything happen on their own. The 2020 presidential election settled this, when the unexciting centrist Joe Biden squashed firebrand progressives Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren in the Democratic primaries. In the general election, moderates and independents were key swing voters helping Biden oust incumbent Republican Donald Trump.

Democrats need to come to this realization before the infrastructure bill, which is  greatly needed, dies.  Manchin is not going to give in, and probably shouldn't.

Biden never had a mandate. He won a rigged election.

The latest Rasmussen poll shows that 56 percent of Americans disapprove of the job that Biden is doing and 48 percent strongly disapprove. Biden spent all of his political capital through his extreme incompetence. The only Democrat candidates who will be welcoming Biden in the next year will be those running in the deepest blue states or districts, where he cannot possibly cost them an election, which means he will be spending a lot of time in his basement in 2022.

I am smart enough to know that Joe Biden did not receive far more legal votes than Obama did without running a real campaign in the midst of a pandemic.
Biden is no moderate and his handlers are hard leftists.

Quote:'Two People': Biden Leans Left, Hints Manchin, Sinema to Blame for Stalled Agenda

After running on unifying a divided America, President Joe Biden has acted as the peacemaker, nurturing the fragile order between moderates and progressives in his fractured party.

But with a fierce stalemate between the two opposing wings in a make-or-break week, Biden leaned left on Saturday with a suggestion that centrist Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema were to blame for the Democrats' infrastructure fiasco.

"We can bring the moderates and progressives together very easily if we had two more votes. Two. Two people," Biden told reporters, taking a veiled jab at key holdouts Manchin and Sinema.

A vote on the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill was delayed this week after progressive and moderate Democrats failed to reach an agreement on an ambitious $3.5 trillion spending bill, a crucial part of Biden's domestic agenda known as the Build Back Better Act.
Manchin and Sinema refused to support the size and scope of the larger package, and progressives rebelled, saying they would not vote for the infrastructure bill unless it's passed in tandem with the spending package.

With the two factions at odds, Democrats returned to the negotiating table Friday, with Biden telling the caucus it's "just reality" that the infrastructure bill won't succeed if Manchin and Sinema don't get onboard with the larger package. He acknowledged that reaching a deal could take weeks.

Progressives are trying to get their shots in with America.  These are the platforms where they are popular with a good many Americans, and I’m certain they are hoping this will score them some points in primaries.

in the end, Pelosi will reign in her progressives and Schumer will reign in his if the Dems want to keep at least one house of Congress in 2022.

You have not read the bills and none of the far left-wing politicians who will be voting for them have read the bills. I have not read the bills nor do I have any intention of reading them. What I do know is that Joe Biden is lying when he claims that the bills will not cost anything because huge tax increases on the rich will pay for them. Nobody with half a mind believes that whopper.

Please do not lie by claiming that you have read these bills that you support, but you have not read them, then why would you criticize me for not reading them? Deficit spending and a heavy tax burden drive inflation. The inflation rate is already out of control, so anybody who support more taxing and spending should prepare to be attacked as the inflation rate and the misery index approach Carter-era levels.

If Republicans cared as little about this country's well being as you do, they would just sit back and let the Democrat Party self-destruct by allowing them to implement their socialist agenda.

Actually I have read them.

I read the 3.5 proposal before and I read 1.5 bill when the Senate passed it.

so you admit to all this pseudo intellectualism?  You really don’t know why the hell you’re talking about.

wouldn’t infrastructure be a federal government responsibility, Hoot?  It has been ignored for 20 years while we diverted our taxpayer funds to nation building and greedy defense contractors.
I don't believe you.
Fine. Sit down and read them and tell me why you’re so opposed, Hoot.  It is it just Democrats and Biden?  That’s it, right?
The $3.5 trillion bill is 2,465 pages long. The $1 trillion infrastructure bill passed by the Senate was 2,000 pages long. I don't plan to read either bill and I don't believe that you have read the bills. Given your history, I doubt that anybody else will believe that you read these bills either.

I have already explained why I oppose the $3.5 trillion bill and do not plan on repeating the explanation for you. I do not need to read 2,465 pages be opposed to spending that will mainly benefit the Democrat Party and drive up my cost of living.

As for infrastructure in general, I support the federal government helping to maintain our interstate system. Amtrak should be put out of its misery. If Amtrak was important to this country, crackhead Hunter Biden would have never served on its board.

What tantrum? I have seen a list of spending items covered by the bills and consider most of them to be a collossal waste of money. I have a day job and there is no reason for me to waste my time reading 4,465 pages written by Democrats when I know that the agenda items are offensive to my beliefs as a patriotic American who believes in the U.S. Constitution. Will there be waste?  Absolutely. But this will be wasted on American shores and most will benefit Americans in product and in job creation.

While Congress battles back and forth on this 10 year bill there was no hesitation on the near trillion dollar yearly defense bill where there is constant colloidal waste!

The bill is a disaster. It takes something totally outrageous to cause all the Dems not to stick together. Even Democrat Joe Manchin said the bill creates a welfare state. It will be centrist Democrats who kill this bill. Democrats that don't believe what the radical far-left socialists on here believe.

This country is broke. Defending the country is a constitutional duty of the federal government, and it is a duty that the Biden administration is failing to perform. The answer is not to cut defense spending and create more large liberal give-away programs. Everybody knows that Biden is lying when he says that the $3.5 trillion will be paid for by taxing the rich and corporations.

I consider all federal spending that is not constitutionally required to be a waste. That is not a popular notion politically, but that is what I believe. Your contention that repealing the Trump tax cuts will result in an increase in tax revenues of $1.7 trillion is naive. When the government sucks an additional $1.7 trillion out of the economy, it comes with a steep cost. The tax cuts were an important factor in the strong economy that we had before the pandemic took hold.

The only part of the economy that will benefit from the huge deficit spending that Biden proposes is the area surrounding Washington, DC. If Biden gets his way - and you get your way, he will wreck the economy. Corporations will resume moving jobs and corporate headquarters our of this country to locations more friendly to businesses.

It is really hard to understand why people like you see no connection between high taxes and over-regulation on this country's economy. One would think that the soaring inflation rate that has already become a problem for the Biden administration would cause you to question the economic theories that liberal politicians have been promoting. But, no, not you. You are still just repeating Democrat talking points and insisting that the Biden economy is a miracle.

The economy will be a losing issue for Democrats in the 2022 elections and it will be a boat anchor for whoever wins the Democrat presidential in 2024. Don't worry, if you forget this advice, I will be reminding you as Democrats' election losses mount.

Constitutionally required and what we spend on defense are two different things.
The economy was growing at a faster clip prior to those tax cuts so that doesn’t hold water either.
I have no doubt the DC area will get their share but to say those are the only people that will benefit is a fallacy. The COVId bills were spread over the nation this infrastructure spending will be too.
Hoot, defense dollars are swallowed up by the VA and DC area by your logic we should cut that and spread it around.

well, we can crack a history book or use Google and understand that these tax rates have continuously been cut by Republicans for over 40 years now while middle class wages are stagnant and poverty has grown in the wealthiest nation in the world.

The nation has shifted to two income households to make ends meet,  unaffordable college, and consistent cuts to public services in the name of tax cuts for the rich.

All the while the rich have moved their corporations and factories overseas while their tax rates have been slashed over and over by Republicans.  They crash the economy and the taxpayer has to bail them out.

I don’t understand how you can continue to defend the consistent protection of the millionaire and billionaire class and corporations who have no concern for this country or its people.

But I do understand that you love your socialism when it comes to the rich. A real free market capitalist wants the govts hands out of businesses decisions to move overseas or staying.

I remember when Obamacare was “a losing issue.”  Now Republicans don’t whisper Obamacare.  The economy will not be a losing issue if these spending bills will be passed and the debt ceiling raised.
Economy will tank if Republicans get their way, and you will be right, Hoot. But let’s not forget why it tanks and why Republicans will win; they want power and money not what is best for this nation.

we have a priorities problem in this nation.

fact is this is overdue. Trump didn’t do what he said. Obama didn’t do enough and Bush did too little.
It doesn’t take 800 billion a year to defend the country. Hoot, don’t try defend the waste of taxpayer money  on defense with the constitution and the founding fathers.  You know good well they wouldn’t support the military role the United States has taken in the world.

The answer IS to rebuild the nation.  Which program you think is a liberal giveaway?

cut the Trump tax cuts and you get 1.7 trillion back. Won’t take much more past that.

You really do not understand how our economy works. The economy is already stumbling, thanks to Biden's socialist policies. Implementing government policies that are detrimental to corporations struggling to do business in this country is not a winning strategy.

I understand the economy was in the tank after the inept Covid response. That was a losing issue.

I understand this country has been business friendly for 40+ years and we have seen the middle class slip away and more and more jobs move overseas.

Hoot, you act as if these corporations and their rich overlords are going to do the right by America.  When? When is the trickle down going to occur? Income Inequality is at record highs.  When will the American worker see the dividends from giving the rich man breaks?

So far all we have seen is a loss of governmental service and a manipulation of our elected officials with all this free flowing money at the top.

Now which Socialist Policies has Biden implemented that is destroying the economy?  Do you have something or is that just right wing blather?
