Schedule/Projected Results
Sept.1 Appalachian State (W)
Sept. 8 Oregon (W)
Sept. 15 Notre Dame (W)
Sept. 22 Penn State (W)
Sept. 29 at Northwestern (W)
Oct. 6 E. Michigan (W)
Oct. 13 Purdue (W)
Oct. 20 at Illinois (W)
Oct. 27 Minnesota (W)
Nov. 3 at Michigan State (W)
Nov. 10 at Wisconsin (W)
Nov. 17 Ohio State (W)

Projected Record: 12-0 overall (8-0 Big Ten)
5 “swing” games
Notes: Michigan was three points away from playing in the title game last year, and with their best four offensive talents back, should be better… If they can get through September undefeated (all 3 swing games during the month at home), they should be 10-0 going into Madison on Nov. 10... The defense is a small concern with only four returning starters, but they still have a solid unit… It’s a tough schedule, but four of their five swing games are at home, and that should be enough to at least put them in a BCS bowl for the fourth time in five years…

Wisconsin
Last Season: 12-1 (beat Arkansas in Capital One Bowl)
Head Coach: Bret Bielema (2nd season)

Returning Leaders:

Receiving: Travis Beckum (61 rec, 903 yards, 5 TD)
Tackles: Jonathan Casillas (83)
Sacks: DeAndre Levy (6)
Interceptions: Allen Langford (3)

Schedule/Projected Results
Sept. 1 Washington State (W)
Sept. 8 at UNLV (W)
Sept. 15 The Citadel (W)
Sept. 22 Iowa (W)
Sept. 29 Michigan State (W)
Oct. 6 at Illinois (W)
Oct. 13 at Penn State (W)
Oct. 20 Northern Illinois (W)
Oct. 27 Indiana (W)
Nov. 3 at Ohio State (W)
Nov. 10 Michigan (L)
Nov. 17 at Minnesota (W)

Projected Record: 11-1 overall (7-1 Big Ten)
5 “swing” games
Notes: Even though they lose Stocco and Thomas from the offense, they return everyone else… P.J. Hill must be able to stay healthy and not wear like he did during the latter stages of last season… Wisconsin is a strong title contender, but road games in Happy Valley and at the Horseshoe and a home game against Michigan will keep bite them at least once….

Penn State
Last season: 9-4 (beat Tennessee in Outback Bowl)
Head Coach: Joe Paterno (42nd year)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: Anthony Morelli (208-386, 2424 yards, 11 TD, 8 INT)
Rushing: Rodney Kinlaw (39 att, 231 yards, 0 TD)
Receiving: Deon Butler (48 rec, 637 yards, 2 TD)
Tackles: Don Connor (113)
Sacks: Stan Lee (5.5)
Interceptions: Anthony Scirrotto (6)

Schedule/Projected Results
Sept. 1 Florida International (W)
Sept. 8 Notre Dame (W)
Sept. 15 Buffalo (W)
Sept. 22 at Michigan (L)
Sept. 29 at Illinois (W)
Oct. 6 Iowa (W)
Oct. 13 Wisconsin (L)
Oct. 20 at Indiana (W)
Oct. 27 Ohio State (W)
Nov. 3 Purdue (W)
Nov. 10 at Temple (W)
Nov. 17 at Michigan State (W)

Projected Record: 10-2 overall (6-2 Big Ten)
5 “swing” games
Notes: Penn State could use a healthy season from RB Austin Scott and highly touted WR/athlete Derrick Williams… Dan Connor should be one of the favorites for various defensive player of the year awards, another great Penn State linebacker… PSU could go undefeated with only one true road test (Michigan), and at the least should finish with 10 victories….

Ohio State
Last Season: 12-1 (lost to Florida in National Championship Game)
Head Coach: Jim Tressel (7th season)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: N/A
Rushing; Chris Wells (104 att, 587 yards, 7 TD)
Receiving: Brian Robiskie (29 rec, 383 yards, 5 TD)
Tackles: James Laurinaitis (115)
Sacks: Vernon Gholston (8.5)
Interceptions: James Laurinaitis (5)

Schedule/Projected Results
Sept. 1 Youngstown State (W)
Sept. 8 Akron (W)
Sept. 15 at Washington (W)
Sept. 22 Northwestern (W)
Sept. 29 at Minnesota (W)
Oct. 6 at Purdue (W)
Oct. 13 Kent State (W)
Oct. 20 Michigan State (W)
Oct. 27 at Penn State (L)
Nov. 3 Wisconsin (L)
Nov. 10 Illinois (W)
Nov. 17 at Michigan (L)

Projected Record: 9-3 (5-3 Big Ten)
5 “swing” games
Notes: Look for Chris Wells to have a monster season at RB, showed flashes last season. He does need to take better care of the football (4 fumbles in 104 att). Boeckman looks to get the first shot at QB, but it could be a revolving door at the position… The defense is very good, and the Buckeyes could easily be 8-0 going into Happy Valley in late October, but the last month of the season could be brutal.

Purdue
Last Season: 8-6 (lost to Maryland in Champs Sports Bowl)
Head Coach: Joe Tiller (11th season)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: Curtis Painter (315-530, 3985 yards, 22 TD, 19 INT)
Rushing: Kory Sheets (158 att, 801 yards, 11 TD)
Receiving: Dorien Bryant (87 rec, 1068 yards, 6 TD)
Tackles: Dan Bick (95)
Sacks: Baker/Avril (6)
Interceptions: Justin Scott (3)

Schedule/Projected Results
Sept. 1 at Toledo (W)
Sept. 8 Eastern Illinois (W)
Sept. 15 Central Michigan (W)
Sept. 22 at Minnesota (W)
Sept. 29 Notre Dame (W)
Oct. 6 Ohio State (L)
Oct. 13 at Michigan (L)
Oct. 20 Iowa (W)
Oct. 27 Northwestern (W)
Nov. 3 at Penn State (L)
Nov. 10 Michigan State (W)
Nov. 17 at Indiana (W)

Projected Record: 9-3 (5-3 Big Ten)
4 “swing” games
Notes: Painter threw 18 INT’s last year, and with Tiller saying they will incorporate more of a running game he should cut down on the turnovers… Anthony Spencer is a big loss, but they return nine starters on offense and defense and should be improved overall… They have a ceiling of 10 wins and a basemen seven, should easily make a bowl….

Iowa
Last Season: 6-7 (lost to Texas in Alamo Bowl)
Head Coach: Kirk Ferentz (9th season)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: Jake Christenson (23-35, 285 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT)
Rushing: Albert Young (178 att, 803 yards, 7 TD)
Receiving: Any Brodell (39 rec, 724 yards, 5 TD)
Tackles: Mike Klinkenborg (129)
Sacks: Bryan Mattison (6.5)
Interceptions: Humpal/Shada (3)

Schedule/Projected Results
Sept. 1 Northern Illinois (W)
Sept. 8 Syracuse (W)
Sept. 15 at Iowa State (W)
Sept. 22 at Wisconsin (L)
Sept. 29 Indiana (W)
Oct. 6 at Penn State (L)
Oct. 13 Illinois (W)
Oct. 20 at Purdue (L)
Oct. 27 Michigan State (W)
Nov. 3 at Northwestern (W)
Nov. 10 Minnesota (W)
Nov. 17 Western Michigan (W)

Projected Record: 9-3 (5-3 Big Ten)
5 “swing” games
Notes: The popular consensus will be Iowa to have another mediocre 5-6 win season, but they were -11 in turnovers last season, something that should change… Drew Tate was a solid leader, but Jake Christenson was a big time recruit and should do a commendable job… With no Ohio State or Michigan on the schedule, they should enjoy a nice bounce back season…
