Despite a game-tying home run in the eighth inning from the Yankees shortstop, the Bombers fell to the Orioles, 7-3, in a marathon 14-inning loss.

Bronx native Pedro Alvarez provided the heroics for the Orioles, blasting a go-ahead grand slam off Jonathan Holder in the 14th inning.

The grand slam broke a string of nine scoreless innings from the Yankees bullpen, which was called into action early after CC Sabathia left the game after the fourth inning with hip soreness. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI later in the night.

Gary Sanchez also left the game in the 14th after clutching his calf while catching.

The Yankees almost had a chance to win the game in the 11th with Gregorius on third base and two outs, Orioles reliever Mychal Givens threw a wild pitch and Gregorius took off for home plate.

Manny Machado crushed two home runs and reached base six times, including a single in the 14th which helped set up Pedro Alvarez’s go-ahead grand slam.

But Givens slid and blocked the plate from Gregorius as he caught the ball and tagged him out to end the inning.

Save The Dates To Remember
The Yankees challenged the play but because he blocked the plate on a legitimate attempt to catch the throw it did not violate the blocking the plate rule.

The Orioles appeared destined to take the lead in the 13th when Caleb Joseph lifted a ball to right field, but Aaron Judge lept and robbed Joseph of a go-ahead home run.

Manny Machado and Chris Davis provided the power for the Orioles early, combining for three solo home runs off Sabathia.

It was Machado’s 15th multi-home run game of his career, with his last coming on Sept. 5 last year against the Yankees off Sabathia and Dellin Betances.

The Yankees responded to both Machado home runs in the bottom half first and third innings with bloop RBI singles from Giancarlo Stanton and Judge.

The Yankees squandered opportunities in the first and sixth inning, leaving two runners on base with less than two outs each inning before Gregorius pulled them back into the game with his eighth inning home run.
