Gonzaga players Josh Heytvelt and Theo Davis have been indefinitely suspended from the team after their arrest Friday night for investigation of drug possession, ESPN.com's Andy Katz reported.

A Gonzaga spokesperson told Katz that Gonzaga coach Mark Few is disappointed and shocked by the arrest, in which police in Cheney, Wash., said they found marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms in a car in which the two players were riding.

Both players have told Gonzaga officials they are innocent.

However, Gonzaga has suspended both indefinitely, so Heytvelt and Davis will not play Saturday against Saint Mary's or on Monday against Santa Clara, Katz reported.

Both players were booked into Spokane County Jail for investigation of drug possession, The Associated Press reported.

Cheney Police Commander Rick Campbell said the amount of marijuana was only enough for a misdemeanor, but that possession of mushrooms is a felony. Police said they pulled the car over because its tail lights were not working. Campbell said officers smelled marijuana and searched the car, and the players were cooperative.

"It was close to midnight. They needed to have their lights on," Campbell said. Heytvelt, a 6-foot-11 sophomore forward, is averaging 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game and has been considered a frontrunner for West Coast Conference player of the year. Davis, a 6-9 freshman, is red-shirting this season undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder to repair ligament damage.

From a basketball perspective, the timing is poor for Gonzaga (17-8, 7-2 WCC). The Bulldogs are tied for first with Santa Clara atop the WCC and saw the next two games as a chance to clinch the regular-season conference title. Gonzaga won its previous meeting with Santa Clara.
And they said that having psychedelic mushrooms of any amount is a felony. So they could possibly be facing some time.
too bad for them they dont play for Bob Huggins, or they'd already be back in uniform after writing their 50 word report on "why shrooms are bad for you"

lmao thats a good one. But on more serious terms this is a pretty sad situation and upsetting if your a gonzaga fan(which I am), hopefully they can handle this with the right and proper authority. Hate to see these 2 players do something like this and jeprodize their futures not only as athletes, but as individuals in life as they will have to make more decisions on their own as life goes on. And apparently they are both not off to a good start with the decision they made to have drugs in their possession. And I hope that Mark Few can handle this in the right manner, b/c Id say hes never been put in a situation like this. Some rocky times as of now up in Spokane, hopefully they can pull through it all!
Coach Mark Few won't put up with this crap! What a couple of idiots!!!!
Needless to say I'm embrassed...
nope he sure wont. There was no doubt in his mind what he was going to do when he got news of this. Rather than do what most other coaches would do, and let them play the season out rather than "jeopordize their chances at a tournament bid", he teaches them a grave lesson in Mark Few 101..As bad as it is to lose arguably the leagues best player, he is a good enough coach to still lead that team to the conference championship and into the NCAA tournament. I think if they win 20 games, whether or not they win the conference or not, they still get in.
