Analysis
It’s time for Nebraska to be good again. Callahan is in his third season with the west coast offense, and most good coaches take three years to put in their system and start winning…

They’ll have trouble finding a running game early because of the loss of Cory Ross to the NFL. But bringing back so many guys should help offset that somewhat…

Nebraska, like Arkansas, can beat USC. Unfortunately, the game is in L.A. and not in Lincoln….

Nebraska is the strongest team in the North, but probably only the 4th or 5th best team in the Big XII. Colorado will be decent, but I think Nebraska has the advantage….

Colorado

Last season: 7-6 (lost to Clemson 19-10 in Champs Sports Bowl)

8-4 overall (5-3 conference)
5 “swing” games

Analysis
This Colorado team will either be really good or really bad. They’ll struggle to score, but I think the defense will be very stingy….

Dan Hawkins is a free spirit (he’s kind of like Phil Jackson). He’s the best possible hire for this program, he’ll clear the air in Boulder quick…

There big problem will be at QB, someone needs to step up and take control of the job….

I think Colorado is a bowl team, I could be generous with 8 wins, but Hawkins will have this team in the postseason….

Iowa St.
Head Coach: Dan McCarney (52-77 overall)

Last season: 7-5 (lost to TCU 27-24 in Houston Bowl)

7-5 overall (4-4 conference)
6 “swing” games

Analysis
I really like this Iowa St. team, in all honesty I think they are better than a seven win team, but the get Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech out of the south……

Offensively, this team will put up the points. Meyer, Hicks, and Blythe make a killer combo, but defensively I think they will have a ton of problems….

Dan McCarney almost lost his job, but he has taken the Cyclones to five bowl games this decade….

Iowa St. could very well win the Big XII North (they should have the last 2 years), but the conference schedule will give them 3 losses from the other division, making it almost impossible….

Missouri
Head Coach: Gary Pinkel (102-67-3 overall)

Last season: 7-5 (beat South Carolina 38-31 in Indepedence Bowl)

# of returning starters: 15 (8 offense, 7 defense)

6-6 overall (3-5 conference)
6 “swing” games

Analysis
Brad Smith meant everything to Missouri. He was their leading rusher (had almost 1500 yards) and team leader last year, to go along with a very accurate arm. If he had the total team talent of Texas, he’d be the same category as Vince Young….

Chase Daniel will replace Smith, and he’s a highly touted player, but he’s a drop back passer, and it’ll take Missou some time to get used to a different style…

Gary Pinkel is on the hot seat, he’s done a decent job here but he needs to have some success are he should be looking for a new job…

Missouri should be bowl eligible based on the # of returning starters alone, but I think they’ll be cutting it close…

Kansas St.
Head Coach: Ron Prince (0-0 overall)

Last Season: 5-6 (no bowl)

# of returning starters: 17 (9 offense, 8 defense)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: Allan Evrdige (102-213, 1365 yards, 6 TD, 7 INT)

Rushing: Thomas Clayton (137 att, 680 yards)

Receiving: Jordy Nelson (45 rec, 669 yards)

Analysis
Bill Synder should be called a saint for the job he did at K-State. He took a program that was the worst in major college football and made them an annual powerhouse by injecting the team with JUCO all-Americans. The field was named after him, and rightfully so….

Ron Prince was the offensive coordinator at Virginia, and has big shoes to fill. I wouldn’t expect a ton of success early, even though they are bringing back a ton of starters…

Kansas St. could easily be bowl eligible at the end of the year, but they’ll need to pull an upset or two and jell under the new regime. They should get off to a 3-1 start before conference play, and that could help carry them to the necessary # of victories….

Kansas
Head Coach: Mike Mangino (19-29 overall)

Last season: 7-5 (beat Houston 42-13 in Fort Worth Bowl)

# of returning starters: 10 (7 offense, 3 defense)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: Adam Barmann (16-30, 118 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT)

Rushing: Jon Cornish (134 att, 820 yards)

Receiving: Brian Murph (33 rec, 368 yards)

3-9 overall (0-8 conference)
5 “swing” games

Analysis
Kansas was pretty good on defense last year. That’s the reason why they were bowl eligible, and eventually won their bowl. They lose 8 starters from that defense, so they will not be as good…

Kansas averaged a whopping 16 points per game in conference last year. They return a good amount of starters from the offense, but it wont make a difference. If you stink, you stink….

Mike Mangino did a really nice job last year adapting to his team’s style (he is an offensive coach), but he’s ass is going to be red hot this year. In fact, I think he’ll be fired at the end of the year if this team doesn’t make a bowl game, and they wont….
