Congrats to Letcher Central dance team for winning state in the open category. This is LCC's first ever overall team state championship. Does anyone know who else place in this and other categories?
Prestonsburg placed 1st in medium varsity jazz, hip hop, and open. Repeating their sweep for the 2nd year in a row.

Magoffin County placed second in small varsity open

Pikeville placed 3rd in medium varsity jazz.

In the middle school competition:

Herald Whitaker (Magoffin County) placed first in hip hop

Adams MIddle School (Prestonsburg) placed first in open

Eastern Kentucky put on a very good show.
It said on our school channel that we got first place in open category. Is there more than one class or are they talking about first runner up?
Dance is divided based on the number of girls/boys on the teams. Small varsity, Medium Varsity, and Large Varsity. The teams can then compete in jazz, hip hop, pom, and open. Prestonsburg has 15 girls on their team so they compete in medium varsity. Magoffin has 10 girls so they compete in small varsity.

This is why dancing can never be taken seriously as a high school sport. There are 12 different "state champions".
good question...agreed
I guess when the khsaa takes over dance like they did cheer leading, you could shrink the divisions. Dance is dance and we are proud of the girls last year and hope this year the girls repeat.
