SEC Commission Mike Slive came out this weekend and recognized the possibility that the “East” and “West” divisions within the SEC Basketball world will be eliminated in the near future at the conferences spring meetings.

To quote the article, “Slive said the conference office will present ideas to coaches and athletics directors about a 12-team league without divisions and how to schedule. Most conferences don’t have divisions in basketball, and there’s a feeling by some that the SEC’s structure gives a false picture of its best teams to the NCAA Tournament selection committee.”
Oscar Combs (@wildcatnews) has already chimed in on twitter with some good insight into the possible change:
[INDENT]“Make no mistake about it, a lot has to do with opening round of SEC tourney where it’s an empty house because top teams get byes. Heck, from fan’s standpoint, a 22-game SEC card where there is a true round-robin schedule would really be exciting, but that won’t happen. Number one, it would squeeze some great non-conference games off a schedule, not to mention cutting cupcakes from coaching viewpoint. Should be interesting week for SEC Spring Retreat in Florida. Conference officials are now being hounded by ESPN for better programing.”
